Help us change the world one pair of shoes at a time. American’s have an average of 15 pairs of shoes per person. What are the chances that you could give us five of yours to help others?
Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School’s Teen Leadership Corps is conducting a shoe collection drive on through March 15 to support micro-enterprises in developing nations, reduce what goes into landfills and raise money for a variety of causes. Teen Leadership Corps will earn funds based on the number of pairs of shoes collected. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes to VASJ.
All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school.
“We are excited about our shoe drive," said Nancy Naujoks ’68, Teen Leadership Corps teacher. "We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like donate to us and help those less fortunate become self-sufficient. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
All kinds of shoes can be collected: work shoes, children’s shoes, hiking shoes, tennis shoes, boots, soccer shoes, dress shoes, flip-flops, slippers, school shoes, etc. All are welcome. The only shoes that can’t be accepted are ice skates, roller skates, and ski boots.
By donating shoes to VASJ’s Teen Leadership Corps, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives.
Shoes can be brought to VASJ’s main office during the school day through March 15.
