VASJ Robotics Team prepares for battle at RoboBot Competition

VASJ’s robotics team will be competing for the third consecutive year in the 2016 AWT Northeast Ohio Regional RoboBots Competition.

The competition will be held at Lakeland Community College on Saturday, April 30, at 9 a.m.

There are a total of 13 VASJ students on this year’s team, up from seven students who competed and tied for fifth place (out of 31 teams) in last year’s competition.

They were proud of last year’s efforts but have even higher expectations for Saturday’s event.

“We return for the third year with our past mechanical issues solved and holding high expectations of winning this one,” says VASJ Engineering teacher Mr. Gary Minadeo ’74.

VASJ’s robot, “Doomba,” named for its similar appearance to the Roomba vacuum, will be operated by seniors Alex and Louis Vertosnik who have operated the robobot for the last three years.

“They know the vulnerabilities of our opponents very well,” says Minadeo.

This year’s VASJ robotics team is sponsored by Tim ’68 and Jason McCord of Heisler Machining. The previous two years VASJ’s team was sponsored by Lincoln Electric.

No matter the outcome of Saturday’s competition, we are proud of the hard work and preparation that has gone into getting VASJ’s robobot , “Doomba,” ready for battle.
