Congratulations to the VASJ Robotics Team for tying for fifth place out of 31 teams and winning the sportsmanship award this weekend at the RoboBots Competition at Lakeland Community College.
VASJ’s robot was sponsored by Lincoln Electric and built and operated by the team comprised of Casey Timko ‘14, Ed Beuck ‘14, Nick Uitenham ‘14, Alex Vertosnik ‘16, Louis Vertosnik ’16 and John Allen ’17 and coached by Mr. Chuck Martinko.
"It was just fun," says Martinko. "It was the neatest competition that we have ever been a part of."
More than just fun, though, the competition was hard work, too. Teams had exactly thirty minutes between battles to take apart and repair their robots before the next competition.
When one of the teams preparing to battle VASJ didn't have their robot ready after the thirty minutes, VASJ's team chose to donate ten of their thirty minutes to the opposing team. This great example of the Viking spirit is what won VASJ's robotics team the sportsmanship award.
