Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School is sad to announce the passing of Coach Tom Schoen ’64. Schoen was a longtime assistant football coach, head coach, and athletic director at St. Joseph High School and VASJ. He was also the catalyst behind the Red & Blue Weight Room, which has evolved into the weight and fitness facility now housed in the Tech Building.
Schoen played quarterback in high school, leading the Vikings to a 9-0-1 record as a senior. He went on to play football at the University of Notre Dame, where he was selected as an All-American his senior year. Schoen was drafted by the Cleveland Browns, but he put his professional career on hold to serve two years in the U.S. Army. He played one season with the Browns in 1970.
Schoen was inducted into the VASJ Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.
Please join us in praying for Coach Schoen’s family and friends during this difficult time.
