Did you know that October 7 is designated as “Villa Angela Day” in the City of Cleveland?
In 1978, then Mayor Dennis Kucinich proclaimed Oct. 7 to be Villa Angela Day in Cleveland in celebration of Villa Angela Academy’s centennial anniversary. The proclamation recognizes the arrival of three Ursuline nuns, one lay Ursuline sister and one laywoman to Cleveland from France who laid the foundation for what would later be known as the beloved Villa Angela Academy.
The official declaration document also acknowledges Villa Angela Academy as providing young women with a “variety of innovative learning experiences, with special emphasis on the themes of life, human living and social justice.” These values are central to the mission and traditions of the Ursulines and remain a key focus in the teachings at VASJ today.
This official proclamation and other special pieces of Villa Angela Academy memorabilia will be on display when the Villa Angela Academy Heritage Center reopens in late fall/early spring 2022! Learn more by visiting
