Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School is excited to announce the VASJ Hall of Fame Class of 2024 inductees. The VASJ Hall of Fame was established to honor alumni, faculty and staff members, and others associated with the Viking community who embody the mission and values of Villa Angela Academy, St. Joseph High School and Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School.
Inductees distinguish themselves through their contribution to their profession, the VASJ legacy and outstanding service to their community. These talented and extraordinary individuals serve as leaders among their peers and show our current students the possibilities that come from hard work, service and following one’s passion.
“Congratulations to our esteemed alumni on their well-deserved induction into the VASJ High School Hall of Fame," said VASJ President Tom Carone. "Your incredible contributions and legacy will be forever etched into the school’s history. We celebrate not only your successes but the inspiration you bring to future generations."
The VASJ Hall of Fame Class of 2024 inductees are:
Mary “Tweety” Dwyer-Kueller ’72: Affectionately nicknamed "Tweety," Mary Dwyer-Kueller played an instrumental role in the planning and reimagining of the Villa Angela Academy Heritage Center at VASJ. Together with the rest of the VA Heritage Center Committee, Dwyer-Kueller spent countless hours ensuring the history of Villa Angela and the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland was preserved and showcased in the center. A former teacher at Villa Angela Academy in the late 1970s, Dwyer-Kueller still supports VASJ today through various fundraising initiatives.
Tony Poelking '66 and Bill Kane '66*: Known as "The Voice and Eyes of the Vikings," Tony Poelking and Bill Kane were a constant dynamic duo at VASJ home football and basketball games for 26 years. After graduating from St. Joseph High School in 1966, Poelking attended the University of Dayton and then taught Business at St. Joe's for several years, while Kane entered the workforce, was drafted into the Army, and served in Vietnam as a decorated combat veteran. When Poelking was asked to take on the role of announcer for Viking home football games in 1989 and home basketball games in 1990, he recruited Kane to join him and act as his spotter, feeding the names and numbers of players to Poelking. Two lifelong friends, Poelking and Kane stayed connected through their love and commitment to the Viking Village. *Kane, who passed away in 2017, will be inducted posthumously into the VASJ Hall of Fame.
Frank Zbiegien '73: Frank Zbiegien is a longtime supporter of Catholic education and all things VASJ. Zbiegien played a key role in the school's $5.5 million Keeping our Promises Campaign in 2021 and the VASJ athletic field renovation last year. He spearheaded his milestone 50th class reunion in 2023 and serves as an engaging leader among his classmates. Donning an upbeat and positive attitude, Zbiegien is always willing to get involved and put forth the effort to make the VASJ community stronger.
The inductees will be formally honored and inducted during VASJ's Continue the Dream gala on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Tickets to the gala will go on sale in the spring. Both individual tickets and reserved tables will be available for purchase. Additional details will be announced as the event draws near.
Spotlights on each inductee will be shared leading up to our Continue the Dream gala.
Please join us in congratulating these incredible individuals!
