Villa Angela-St. Joseph senior Tyler Cruickshank has been playing football since he was 6 years old and he always thought he would play college football.
The dream has become a reality.
Cruickshank signed a national letter of intent to continue his career at Division II Urbana on May 14.
A talented defensive back and wide receiver, Cruickshank had interest from Malone, Walsh and Mount Union as well, but made a decision he is very comfortable with.
“It came down to playing time. They needed DBs and it was a good fit for me,” Cruickshank said.
“This is my passion. This is what I wanted to do my whole life.”
Cruickshank led the Vikings in interceptions his senior seasonand helped VASJ to a 9-2 record and make the Division VI playoffs.
“My senior year has been pretty special,” Cruickshank said. “We had a complete 360 going from 1-9 to 9-2. This has been pretty emotional.
“Urbana just felt like VASJ. It was a great fit for me.”
VASJ athletic director Nate Zavorek '94 called Cruickshank the “heart and soul” of the 2013 football team and a “true Viking.”
