Peer Ministers hold Rosary Prayer Service

Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School works hard to keep alive and well many of the great traditions from its rich past. The Rosary Prayer Service is one such tradition.

“When I was a senior we had a version of the prayer service,” says VASJ religion teacher Bill Raddell ’68. “It is so nice to see the students do the same thing but each year make it more interactive and imaginative.”

Raddell shares his memories with his students, helping to instill in them a sense of history and tradition in their school.

“Mr. Raddell tells us stories all the time about his class and how they put it on,” says Student Council President Jacob Di Donato ’14. “It is cool to be able to say we keep that tradition alive."

Each October, the VASJ student body comes together for the Rosary Prayer Service, rotating the Mysteries each year so that before a student graduates, they will have experienced all four.

"October is the month of the rosary which makes it a good way to emphasize Mary, the model of discipleship," Raddell says. As a Marianist school, it is important to focus on Mary in this special way.

Playing a key role in the Rosary Prayer Service are VASJ’s Peer Ministers who help coordinate and implement the service and also serve as the actors who break open and perform each mystery.

“What made this year special was having all the seniors as leaders and being able to involve the juniors as well,” says Peer Minister Kortni Spates ’14.

Each senior held a leadership role during this year’s Rosary Prayer Service. It was a great example of the Class of 2014 coming together in spirit and truly a special morning for all in attendance.
