“Why now?” This question has been raised by several Viking alumni regarding the campaign to renovate the athletic field. The answer is safety.
The crown that runs the length of the field is 5 degrees and the cause of numerous leg muscle injuries, along with sprains of the ankle and injuries to the knee. A grass field should be crowned 0.5 degrees. The current athletic field is not conducive to realistic playing conditions nor is it safe for our student-athletes.
Recent building improvements are putting VASJ on a competitive footing with other schools. It’s time to also bring the field and track up to a competitive level.
