VASJ names Cheryl Stashinko ’03 as Associate Director of Alumni Relations
CLEVELAND, OHIO ﹘ Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School President Bill Cervenik ’72 announced Cheryl Stashinko ’03 as the school’s new Associate Director of Alumni Relations.
“During the interview it was apparent Cheryl was well qualified for the job and was ready to come back home to her Alma Mater and help our alumni reconnect with VASJ,” Cevenik says.
After graduating high school, Stashinko received her undergraduate degree from Franklin University in Columbus and a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Kent State University.
She is thrilled to bring her years of experience back to the school she remembers so fondly.
“I am working for an organization I believe in with all my heart,” Stashinko says. “It still feels like home, even though I graduated 15 years ago. Sometimes I still can’t believe I’m here!”
It was the sense of community felt among the students, regardless of their differences, that Stashinko says made her high school experience so memorable.
“My classmates all had different skills, interests, and backgrounds yet we all came together,” Stashinko says. “I remember us all getting along. It didn’t matter if you played sports or were involved in the arts. We all knew each other.”
She hopes to help alumni realize this sense of community still exists today.
“I want the alumni community to know that VASJ is still giving its students that same unique experience we all had,” Stashinko says. “It’s not about giving back, it’s about coming back. I want us to come back and see the difference our alma mater is making - even years later. I’m excited to create opportunities for alumni to engage with our current students.”
Stashinko plans to build a community among alumni and current VASJ students.
“I want to bring us all together as an extended family of Villa Angela, St. Joseph, and VASJ alumni,” Stashinko says. “It is easy to lose touch over the years, and I look forward to helping us reconnect with our classmates in new and fun ways.”
One such opportunity is at the upcoming All Classes Alumni Reunion Weekend, taking place September 28-29, 2018.
“This is the first year we’re holding an all-classes reunion,” Stashinko says. “I can’t wait to meet alums beyond the four years I attended VASJ and hear the stories and traditions of those who helped build our legacy!”
There is still time to register for the event. Visit vasj.com/reunions for more information and to register.
