The Viking community joined together on the morning of Aug. 29 to celebrate our Opening School Mass.
The Mass is an annual school tradition, serving to kick off the academic year and introduce our new students to the faith-filled environment at VASJ. Fr. Joe Fortuna from Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Euclid served as celebrant.
The theme for this school year is “Be one of mind; live in peace.” The quote is taken from 2 Corinthians 13:11 and was chosen by members of the Campus Ministry COR team.
"Our students have noticed a need for unity and community in our school and are dedicated to fostering this in the upcoming year," said VASJ Campus Minister Erin Maher '16. "We strive to 'be one of mind,' with that mind being Christ. With our thoughts being focused on Christ, we can all come together and find communion in Him and each other, encouraging us to 'live in peace.'
"It is simple to stay within one's self and avoid reaching out when those around us are in need," Maher continued. "But we encourage all of our students and our community to 'Be one of mind' and to reach out to create that unity and bondedness that we all deserve within Christ."
