Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School will continue the Veterans Day tradition of honoring all military veterans at an all-school assembly this Friday, November 11. The assembly will begin at 12:40 p.m. and is scheduled to last one hour.
This year’s event will be unlike any of the rest as it will be the first Veterans Day since the Viking Memorial Monument was added to VASJ’s courtyard this past May. At that time, six Vikings who were killed in action were honored. Since that time, another name has surfaced of an alum who was killed in the Vietnam War. A plaque in honor of Richard Thomas ’57 was added to the monument and will be honored at Friday’s assembly.
Richard was killed on February 12, 1966. He left behind his widow, two daughters, his parents, and one sister.
Friday’s assembly will also include the attendance of the Catholic War Veterans and St. Joseph High School alumnus Ken Kirchner '64, an Air Force Vietnam veteran and retired Cleveland police officer, will serve as the featured speaker.
All are cordially invited to attend our Veterans Day assembly as we honor all of our veterans.
