There are a few terms that are at the forefront of what VASJ is all about. “Faith. Family. Future.” are often the most notable. However, there is another essential facet of VASJ: service.
Service to the community is one of the first things incoming freshmen are taught when they enter VASJ. Through Campus Minister Ms. Jill Latkovich, students are lead through the process of dedicating their time to helping and serving others through service.
In this quest to help others, several of VASJ’s thespians used their talent and skills to help our neighbors at Our Lady of the Lake School.
Seniors Will Cartwright, Anna Radachy, Khalid Mitcham, and Kathleen O’Donnell assisted their grade school counterparts with their performance of the holiday classic Elf Jr.
“I have learned a lot of skills in our own Drama Club, so it only seems right to put those skills to use elsewhere,” Will says.
Will and Kathleen have assisted OLL with their on-stage performances in the past, as well, both lending a hand with last year’s production.
Khalid and Anna, both volunteering for the first time, found the experience enlightening and fun and only have one regret: not doing this service sooner.
“I absolutely loved helping with the kids,” Khalid says.
Elf Jr. went off without a hitch, generating plenty of laughs and great reviews, thanks in part to the efforts of our Vikings, who assisted backstage during the production.
