Three VASJ students received the UES (Ursuline Educational Services) 2011 Service Award for their service to worthy causes. "These students exhibit strong leadership, courage, ingenuity and compassion. They have made significant contributions to the betterment of our world already in their young lives. We can only imagine what they will continue to do as they mature in wisdom, age, and grace,” says Judith Wimberg, director of Ursuline Educational Services.
The three VASJ students receiving awards are senior Kaja Kijauskas for her service at All Souls Cemetery, building a catalogue of veterans' graves, junior Emily Oligny for her service at the Euclid Animal Shelter, and sophomore Jaelyn Rogers for her service as a summer camp counselor and lifeguard at Camp Cedar Hills. Guided in faith by the dual charisms of the Ursuline Core Values and the Marianist Characteristics of Education, all VASJ students are taught the importance of service to others, social consciousness, justice and peace for all. While only a few students were selected for the UES 2011 Service Award, many students at VASJ are providing wonderful services to many worthy causes.
