Care for some elderberry wine? There was plenty to go around in the Brewster household over the past weekend when the VASJ Drama Club gave three great performances of Joseph Kesselring’sArsenic and Old Lace.
With an amazing cast, drop-dead comedy, and an impressive set, Arsenic and Old Lace was a hit with the huge crowd that attended. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many saying it was the best play VASJ has put on in years, bolstering the cast’s amazing efforts.
For the past three months, the cast and crew of the VASJ Drama Club worked non-stop to make this play the sensational success that it was.
Junior Khalid Mitcham played Mortimer Brewster, the oblivious nephew of the murderous Brewster sisters. His performance was unforgettable, with his excellent one-liners and his amazing acting.
“There has been blood, sweat, and tears, but in the end it was all worth it,” says Khalid.
Indeed, many of his castmates felt the same. Michael Doss, a senior who portrayed Dr. Herman Einstein with a hilarious accent and amazing sight gags, had similar feelings. He summed it up in one word: Fantastic.
Director Molly Lorek, who has been involved with Drama Club for the past three years, was also pleased with the outcome.
“We had a talented group of students this year and everyone worked really well together and everyone helped to create an amazing play,” says Lorek.
For now, the drama club will rest and relish in the success of the play and look forward to their fundraisers and fall performances.
