Tom Vince '58 selected as Citizen of the Year by Good Day Hudson

Tom Vince has been selected as Hudson's Citizen of the Year for 2012 by Good Day In Hudson.

Vince, a 43 year resident of Hudson, is the sixth winner of the award presented by Good Day in Hudson's Frank Youngwerth.

The award is not based on what an individual does in a given year, but what he has given during his many years of giving of himself to the community, according to Youngwerth.

Youngwerth cites many examples of Vince's contributions to the community including:

• Vince's more than 12 years performing, and producing "Moment in Hudson History" as a key segment of Good Day in Hudson;
• In 1973 he was part of a core of citizens who revived Hudson Heritage, which had begun in the 1960s, but had seen a loss of interest;
• Vince is a past president of Hudson Heritage and a long time program chairman;
• Vince has written nearly 200 articles about Hudson and its history;
• The 2012 Citizen of the Year did an architectural study of Hudson which led to the city being certified to name historical buildings as National Historic sites.  This was a four year project on his part.  The end result was getting Hudson's historic district certified as a National Historic site.  That took three years of Vince's time;
• Vince was a member of the Hudson Bi-Centennial committee which led to building the current Hudson Bandstand;
• He was an original member of the Hudson Bandstand Committee, which houses the concerts on the green each Sunday during the summer;
• Longtime active member of the Rotary Club of Hudson;
• Former director of the Hudson library; and
• For the past 17 years Vince has served as archivist and historian for the Western Reserve Academy.

Previous Citizen of the Year winners include: Mayor William Currin, Sherry Beam, Nan Mitcheletti, Peg Morgan and Liz Murphy.*
