As a result of their exemplary leadership at VASJ, a group of seniors were selected to attend the Ursuline Educational Services annual Student Leadership Conference at Ursuline College and Beaumont School. Ursuline Educational Services promotes the preservation and development of the Ursuline charism and fosters educational excellence, innovation and global connectedness.
The leadership event is held for high schools who are sponsored by the Ursuline congregations. Students from across the country attend the event to improve their leadership skills through the teachings and ministry of St. Angela Merici. All three of VASJ's students, Aysia Kemp, Victoria Francetic and Abigail Smith, hold leadership roles at the school including VASJ's National Honor Society, Student Ambassadors, Peer Ministry and Student Council.
It was thanks to the generosity of the VA Alumnae Association and Ladies Night Out that the students were able to attend the four-day leadership conference.
"I am very glad that I attended," says Student Council President Victoria Francetic. "We learned different leadership styles, about St. Angela's history, and how to implement spirit and service into the VASJ community. I learned how to lead my class in a great way."
At the conclusion of the conference, there was a closing prayer service at the Ursuline Chapel in the St. Angela Center. The group was then treated to an ice cream social by the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland.
"That was the highlight," says VASJ Campus Minister Jill Latkovich. "The girls all met and had time to spend with Sr. Martha Mooney, Sr. Susan Mary Rathbun, Sr Joan Peterson, and Sr. Susan Durkin."
