During his tenure as President at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School, Richard Osborne '69 is usually on the giving end of awards. He has attended countless assemblies, banquets and ceremonies where he and Principal David Csank have distributed certificates, scholarships and diplomas.
At a special luncheon on December 2, however, he was on the receiving end of an award. Osborne was named the 2015 recipient of the Euclid Hospital Community Service Award.
Daniel Napierkowski, M.D., president of Euclid Hospital presented Osborne with the award.

“It is really a privilege to present this award today,” Napierkowski said, making note of the various ways in which Osborne has been committed to the success of the neighborhood surrounding VASJ during his time as President at VASJ.
Osborne has been a member of the Euclid Hospital Community Advisory Council and served on the boards of Northeast Shores Development Corporation and Shore Cultural Centre.
Osborne has made several nominations for this award, including nominating last year’s recipient, his classmate Chris McGrath ’69.

When he received the phone call from Ann Coughlin, regional program manager at Euclid Hospital, he assumed she was calling to tell him the person he nominated had once again been selected.
Much to his surprise, she was calling to tell him that he had been selected as this year’s recipient.
“I was really stunned when Ann called me to tell me about this award,” Osborne says. “I certainly didn’t expect it to be me.”
Although grateful to have been selected, Osborne noted the rising success of his alma mater is a testament to all of the hard working faculty and staff at VASJ.
“I am extremely happy and honored to accept this award on behalf of all the men and women who make VASJ what it is.”
